2.7 billion people to be online by end of 2013

Some 250 million people across the globe came online in 2012 as broadband prices plummeted and internet coverage expanded.
With similar growth expected this year an estimated 2.7 billion people will be hooked up to the internet by the end of 2013.
The findings come in an annual report by the United Nations agency International Telecommunication Union (ITU) called Measuring the Information Society 2013.
The rapid expansion of mobile broadband in recent years was picked out by the report as a key development, with 50 per cent of the world's population now covered by a 3G network.
Analysts found that in developing countries mobile broadband is now more affordable than fixed broadband, but still much more expensive than in developed countries.
