Charlie Hunnam has dropped out of the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.
The Pacific Rim star has agreed to assist filmmakers in finding a replacement.
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Charlie had to walk away from the project due to his ‘immersive TV schedule’ which would not give him enough time to properly prepare for the role.
A statement published on the entertainment site reads: ‘The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.’
BLOG: Who is Charlie Hunnam?
He was due to star opposite Dakota Johnson in the movie, which follows the story of Anastasia Steele who embarks on a sexual relationship with her boss Christian Grey.
E.L. James, who wrote the Fifty Shades of Grey novel, confirmed the news on Twitter saying: ‘I wish Charlie all the best.’
Sources told Hollywood Reporter that the actor was feeling uncomfortable with the attention and fan frenzy he was receiving of late after being cast, and may have got cold feet about the project.
